Wee-North Project Ghana

Who We Are

We are the WEE-North Network, the first women’s multi-trade association in Northern Ghana. Born on December 6, 2023, under the Companies Act, we are a vibrant, youth-led, and women-led collective of young women breaking barriers in industrial trades. Our home is in Choggu Yapalsi, along the Tamale-Kumbungu road in the Northern Region, but our reach extends across every district in Northern Ghana.

We are 55 district women’s multi-trades associations—WEE Groups—united under one mission. Today, we proudly represent 2,066 members, each contributing to their communities through skilled trades, volunteering, and advocacy for gender equity and transformation. Together, we are changing the face of industry in Northern Ghana.

We are more than just a network; we are a movement. Every quarter, we come together in cluster meetings, and twice a year, we gather for semi-annual and annual meetings to strategize, innovate, and pilot new models for group and individual businesses, including our Service Centers. These centers are not just spaces—they are hubs of empowerment, serving as workshops, tool storage facilities, meeting grounds, and customer service stop-shops. Currently, 29 Service Centers are thriving at the district level, and we are committed to establishing one in every WEE Group across Northern Ghana.

Our work is rooted in capacity building, advocacy, and business development. We coordinate opportunities for our members, from training and certification to employment, ensuring they have the tools to succeed. We are a voice for women in male-dominated trades, challenging stereotypes and creating pathways for young women to thrive in non-traditional careers. Through our efforts, we are not only transforming lives but also changing the face of industry in Northern Ghana.

Our members are young women aged 18-35, from rural, peri-urban, and urban districts. Many face challenges like forced marriage, migration, and exploitation. Seventy-five percent are single, with 25% of them raising children. Half have secondary education, while others have varying levels of basic education. For many, the future once seemed bleak, but through trades training and post-training support, they are discovering hope, building livelihoods, and reshaping their communities.

We are the WEE-North Network—a force for change, a community of resilience, and a testament to the power of women united in purpose. Together, we are redefining what’s possible for women in Northern Ghana and changing the face of industry in Northern Ghana.
